Plans for School Holiday

School holiday has officially started. It is the mid - term holiday for all school in Malaysia. Dotting daughter will be off the school too for a week.

Dotty: Mimi, I feel like going some where nice for this school holiday. Are we going anywhere for this school holiday mi?

mimi: Erm.. I haven't think of any yet. 

Dotty: Oh really? I was thinking we could go some place nice and cool. It's school holiday anyway. Where should we go? Please mimi.. I really want to go some where.

mimi: What do you have in mind?

Dotty: Let's go to the UK!!

mimi: (jawdropped!) WHAT??? o no.. not now...hehehe. the furthest is Ipoh. yeap..we are going back to Ipoh.

She can crack real good jokes sometimes! and a big gulp for us.

Anyway, below are the things/places we've been doing/going during school holiday.  I don't always bring her to a lot of posh places. Sometimes it is better to keep it simple... a good fun family outing are also enjoyable moments =)

1) Aquaria KL

We love the view of the life in the sea in this viewing area .It's a great place to snap a silhouette photo. Classic!

2) KL Bird Park

There is a vast pond for these pelicans. They are always up to something. Cheeky

Lovely view from up there. tummy has Butterflies!!

3) Pusat Sains Negara

National Science Centre is huge and full of fun facts. Knowlegde level UP!! big place to run around too!

 
4) Kidzania

Kids could try their ambition and learn how important knowledge is in order to fulfill their dream job!

5) Ikea cafe

Enjoy the famous Ikea meatball at reasonable price. Don't forget the fluffy muffin!! Heaven

6) Swimming

Swimming activity is always fun for kids. Being able to jump into the pool and floats. Cool! =)

7) Popular Bookstore

There are many choice of books, comics, DVDs and stationary that will make them happy =)

8)Zoo Negara

Visit the Pandas in Zoo Negara!!

10) Muzium Negara

Museum is a must visit. It is important to introduce kids the history of past and nurture patriotism in themselves.

11) Movie watching - cinema showtime

During school break, great movies will be released by the Cinemas. Google up for the latest movie

Lavish Beef Char Kueh Tiow cooked by Mimi with Love! (Stir Fry Noodle with Beef)

Cooking and baking has been my passion since ever. I will share with you my fav recipes and always a winner.
It's all about - good food + good company & great entertainment.

I have been cooking Beef Char Kueh Tiow for my family since I was younger.

The recipe of Beef Char Kueh Tiow or Beef Stir Fry Noodle that I used was originally taken from a website. However, I can't recall which website since I have been using the recipe for a decade! (It sounds ancient, but I was very young then, and still young now, but that statement just made me sound old! ) =P. 
I made it luxurious by adding the side ingredients lavishly. It seems to be more fulfilling and satisfying. Yummmm..

Beef Char Kueh Tiow is a easy dish to whip up and delicious!
Prep time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 10 mins
Cooked for: 5 adults

Kueh Tiaw or Flat Noodles are sold in fresh pack or dry pack. If you were to buy a dry pack, you can soak the flat noodle in hot water for 4 mins or until the noodle al dente. However, if you bought the fresh pack, you can use it straight into the wok.

The ingredients are simple: Lavish Beef Char Kueh Tiow cooked by Mimi with Love! needs :

4 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 pack of Dry / fresh Flat Noodle
200g fresh Beef (cut the beef into strips, you will get alot.)
5-6 cloves of Garlic (chopped medium to fine)
1 tablespoon of chili paste. (alternatively, you can use dry chili powder, it will give a slight different taste, but still good!) either one, still good.
A handful of beansprouts 
A handful Chives
Soy sauce 1 cup (1/4cup thick sauce and  1/4 cup light + 1/2cup water )
Salt to taste and sugar (a pinch to reduce the chilli heat)
1 egg (optional)

Let's Cook! Got to be fast!

Heat the wok with medium fire and add in the oil- let the oil heat up 
Swishh the chopped garlic and stir fry it until it has fragrance- reduce the fire to medium-slow.
Add in the chilli paste and stir it till it is fragrance. Swishh the beef and cook it well.
Swishh the soy sauce  combination and let it simmer.  Add in the salt, sugar. Continue to stir.
Add in the flat noodle + beansprout + chive. Stir well the ingredient and let it simmer for 2 mins.
Break the egg and pour it at 1 side of the noodle. Let it cook and mix it well with all of the ingredients. 

And Voila!  Lavish Beef Char Kueh Tiow cooked by Mimi with Love!

Sony Cybershot DSC-WX350

This is a follow up post on my camera search.

After reading and surveying around about cameras that fits my need. I went to the mall and test the cameras I shortlisted. After testing the 3rd and 4th shortlist. I made some testing on 1st and 2nd seeded :Canon Powershot and Sony Cybershot DSC-WX350. The salesperson made some low lighting photo and the outcome : Sony Cybershot DSC-WX350 has better shoot even though it was in a very limited light area.

Low light function and output is one of my major need as I usually shoot for pictures indoors or at a low light atmosphere. 
The Zoom ability is also a necessity as I love to take pictures 360degrees around me from a seating..

Hence I find that Sony Cybershot DSC-WX350 camera suited me better. So far it has been a pleasure using the camera even though I have not finish exploring all of the functions , still learning about the camera. But it never fail to impress me since I bought it. =)

Camera Specification

The retail price from the shop was RM999 but after some great bargain, it only cost me RM799.
It comes with the original camera bag (RM90++), 8GB Sony SD card (which will cost me another RM90++). Warranty 12+3 months(online warranty).

I think Sony Cybershot DSC-WX350 is a great bargain. and the most important bits are...

1)Fits my bags/clutch/purse. Look at below picture-the bling bling clutch -the camera. fits perfectly =D
2)Even though the camera is small. It has good functions that makes taking pictures easier and fun and it really feels like I'm going around with a DSLR. LOL!
3) There is one function in the camera where you could adjust manually according to your liking. Intelligent Auto- adjustable picture effects just like this pictures.Choose your partial color of R-Y-G-B .. or even High contrast B&W, Retro. The camera allows you to edit the setting before snapping a photo.

4)The functions are very interesting. low light exposure. moving. colors...gourmet and many more..=). There is also a fun fun function of snapping fireworks. I haven't had the chance yet. will update if I've got one.

5) Panoramic function: you can take your photo from left to right, right to left, upward and downward.

6) It has the function of Wifi where I can connect and use my smartphone as the remote control of the camera. Just need to download the PlayMemories app and connect the phone with the camera. I can also transfer all the photos to my smartphone using the wifi connection. To transfer to my laptop, I used the cable as usual. LOL

  7) A function of selfie: self timer and select the function of self potrait. The camera will shoot once a face is detected. It could also beautify the face using the beautify function.

 It has been a month already since I have my Sony Cybershot DSC-WX350 around with me. We have been using the Sony quite a lot as we love to have family & friends gatherings and anything fun.

In a nutshell. I find that Sony Cybershot DSC-WX350 is a camera for anyone who like to have the fun effects and settings/functions. It is like having a DSLR but comes in a smaller size.

How to buy a good camera

I had few cameras in my life before. From the medium priced to the cheapest. 

So far I can't afford to get the expansive high-rated camera.

It is because:

1- I don't have the big budget

2- Don't need a posh and fancy camera

3- Not a photographer as a profession

4- Not keen to bring a big bag full of camera and it's gadgets around (especially when you have a dotting daughter to focus on) 

5- Only need camera that can fit into my handbag/clutch/bag pack jumbled with other stuffs.

Despite the reasons, I do still scout around for a trusted brand, high quality photo, easy to carry and has some similar specs of a high-end camera. 

Here are some of the shortlisted cameras I have read the reviews (budget in mind RM1000 the most), however yet to choose :)  

Canon PowerShot SX280HS

• Price is below $250  equivalent to RM787
• Small, could fit into bags/pockets
• Zoom function of 20x zoom lens with optical stabilization
• Battery life of 210 shots (not the best in the market but i don't mind to buy an extra battery as a backup)
• Build-in WIFI and NFC for quick image transfer to phone. 
• A GPS radio for adding location data to your images and full manual exposure controls in addition to a bevy of automatic modes.
• Turns on quickly and focuses in no time. 
• Video images are not very clear. 
• Photo and colours of images are accurate and also sharper than smartphone.  

Sony Cyber-shot WX350

 

• $249 = RM780
• Smaller sized from Canon, compact frame
• Zoom function is 20x zoom lens.
• Longer Batter life ( 470 shots, according to Sony)
• Low quality indoor image
• WIFI and NFC  built in.
• Stability, fits all occasion.
• Wi-Fi and NFC, plus a big, bright display (though not quite as nice as Canon’s), and fast performance. 
• Lower image quality
• Doesn't capture clear image in indoor surrounding.

Canon PowerShot Elph 340 HS

Canon’s Elph cameras have been in demand for a long time due to the compact size and reliable image quality. However, if I top up and upgrade to the SX280HS is well worth it for the significantly longer zoom lens and greater photographic controls.

Fujifilm’s FinePix F850EXR

The green colour is nice but...

It lacks optical image stabilization instead opting for the less-effective sensor-shift type. 

Produced messier images at ISO 800 and above thanks to overly-aggressive noise reduction (creating the dreaded “watercolor painting” effect) and lacks Wi-Fi, so you can’t transfer images to your smartphone with the camera.

The two top choices would be the preferred choices but I've just thrown in the other two, to have better comparisons. 

Now is the time to think.

Mourning for MH17 News

Today, Malaysia, 22 August 2014, is mourning of  MH17 which was shotdown in Ukraine. The remains of 20 passengers has been brought home from Amsterdam arrived in KLIA in the morning to be given the proper burial ceremony.

Bolster Laundry bag ~ (BLB)

I would like to share with you the steps of making a laundry bag from a bolster case. o (∩ ω ∩) o

Easy peasyy!  It would be a 2 minutes job if you have a sewing machine. :-! However you will be able to do it ... within 10 minutes without a sewing machine..I promise! =D

Once you have the idea of bolster case, please proceed. =))
Firstly, get a bolster case, which you don't want to use or you have extras at home.

 
Lay the case flat on a table and cut the case into 2 parts. You could either have it both the similar size or you could adjust the size to make it (One bigger than the other).

But for my tutorial,  I cut it into 2 half in the middle.
From the drawing below, you can see the drawstrings are at the end of the case. These will be used as the tie up of the bags. 

After cutting them into half, turn the wrong sides out.
Sew 1 inch from the part you just cut to make it into a bag.


Et Voila!!!  You will have 2 laundry bags ready in no time!!

At home, I have 2 laundry bags made of bolster case. I made it for my daughter's daily clothing from the daycare. It is very handy to have 2 as I can wash it every alternate day. 

dirty clothes in, tie up bags,go home, throw the dirty clothes in the washing machine and so does the laundry bag.
